The Invitation?
It was a nothing, no where, no how day. No one seemed to know who sent the invitation?
Up for adventure and treasure, Genevieve donned her favourite party dress. Arriving at the address on the back of the invite, she found herself in beautiful garden that lead to a porch with 2 cats on it.
She stood in front of the door on the left, and wondered if it was the right one to knock on? This One, or the Other?
Using the knocker, she rapped on the left door, the one she was standing in front of.
The door opened, she walked in and suddenly began to feel herself fade.
South Africa
A few seconds passed, and Genevieve began to feel herself recover.
But where was she, and why was she in new gown?
A beautiful woman in another fabulous gown informed Genevieve she was at a wedding, in South Africa. It was very special, and being held at….
She was gifted turquoise-blue glass beads made from left over bits of glass.
It was a wonderful party and she danced what seemed forever under the blue celebration sky. Then someone took her hand.
They said “come, come see”, and they walked through the door of the outside room.
Whereupon Genevieve found herself in blackness.
Tokyo, Japan
As darkness yielded to light, she found herself wearing an elegant kimono with obi.
It didn’t take long for her to realize that she was in …
Suddenly the giant creature came to life. Like a gargantuan thin, wiry Godzilla it began to attack, sending people fleeing out of the door.
Genevieve began fleeing, then espied a massive red net, just outside the door.
She grabbed the net, and deftly threw it over the spider.
After finishing off the spider with a few martial arts moves, she began feeling cold. She became so cold, she began turning blue.
El Palazzo dei Pinguini
Genevieve was in a blue frozen land at the bottom of the earth.
She walked with 2 Pinguini through a door and into an ice manor.
She adored the Pinguini. She held them and hugged them and kissed them.
The Pinguini gave her an icy blue velvet gown, a boa made of snow and diamonds made of ice. Genevieve was made Principessa del Pinguini.
She never felt so warm.
Through frozen tears, she told the Pinguini she could not live with them forever. She asked them if they could help her get home?
Sad as they were, the Pinguini told her to look up into the sun!
As she looked up, she felt a ray of sun capture her.
Treasures
Next thing Genevieve knew, she was back on the porch, by the garden. Her treasures surrounded her: Ice diamonds, a snow boa, glass beads and an obi.

She had gone in One Door and come out of the Other Door. Genevieve was back where she had started. In the end, One door led to the Other.
The snow boa and Ice diamonds began to melt, yet she was happier than she had ever been.
It was evident that things were ephemeral, and that the only lasting treasures were inside her memories; inside her mind and heart.

This, Ms. Resa, shows how clever you are. All the best, TOF
Thank you, TOF! ❦
Wow, Resa! I really loved this post!! I wish I was Genevieve, donning those outfits and out on a grand adventure! My favorite is the kimono, which seems so authentic and the detailed threading on the sleeves and colorful belt are really eye-catching. Her wedding dress is incredible, too. I wonder what it would feel like to wear this dress for one night; it really captures the imagination . . . As an aside, that spider sculpture is creepy and so accurate in capturing what freaks me out about spiders! Thanks for sharing with us.😊💜👗
Hello Ada!
Did you know the an Obi must not match/be of the same fabric as the kimono? I know this from the Japanese side of my hubs family.
I could have probably made a better choice in terms of harmony, but one of my rules for the Art Gowns is that I work with what I have. I’m only allowed to buy necessary notions like needles, threads, snaps, etc.
It’s fun designing on a smaller scale, and keeping the details real.
I’ve always admired Vionnet’s half scale Judys and the bias designs she was able to come up working on them.
Well, at least Genevieve took care of the spider! It’s interesting that many blog pals have arachnophobia.
I loved making this post. I’m so happy you came for a visit, enjoyed and commented.
Thank you! ❦🌹❦❦🌹❦
Oh my goodness, Resa, I am in awe after reading and studying this wonderful post. Genevieve’s adventure was amazing, and so well told through photos of your creations. I love how you tied this all together through the two doors of Teagan’s photo and worked through the story, urged on by the other doors. I can’t imagine the work involved, but I absolutely love the results. Thank you for joining this challenge and sharing your creativity with us.
Thank you, Dan!
Well, I don’t partake in challenges, so this once a year foray inspires a gala approach.
It was a lot of creative fun, and I hope lots of people find the fab in it.
Thank you for hosting, and I am thrilled you loved what I came up with!
Now, I look forward to Teagan and Robbie seeing the post!

Fabulous post, Resa! The gown designs, the country-jumping, the blogger mentions… A truly unique presentation!
Thank you Dave! It’s the only challenge I’ve partaken in. It’s a once a year thing, and this is my second time.
I guess I just love any reason to design a gown, one of the most practical items of clothing a person can own. 🤭
🙂 👍 👏
Thank you for this enchanting post…
You are welcome, Annette!
Thank you for taking. the time to read it!
What a fabulous post, dear Resa! You have managed to captivate me once again. 💖
Yay, thank you, Luisa!
I was hoping the miniature Barbie Art Gowns and photos would delight some people!

What a fabulous post, dear Resa!
You have managed to captivate me once again.
❦🌹💃🏽🌹❦
A fabulous post, Resa! I had to go back and look at the first gown again after reading that it was made from your M-i-L’s scarf. 💙 I love how you tied the story together with the photos and gowns. I was thinking if I had known you when my kids were little they’d be begging me to buy some gowns from you for their “Barbs.”
Is there a photo missing at the beginning under Tokyo? I see a blank box.
Merril!
Ha! I would have loved some of my Barbie gowns when I was a kid, too. Perhaps that is why I like making them now. It’s never too late!
Hmm…Is the blank box tight under Tokyo, or under the first sentence?
There is no blank box here. I replugged the first pic, which is under the first sentence, just in case.
If you have a blank box under the first sentence, try clicking on it to blow it up, then go back to the post. See if there is a pic now?
Thank you for mentioning that!!
I’ve had that scarf for 25 years and never wore it. This seemed a better homage than my closet. 💙
Thank you, Merril! 💙
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you! I saw the comment, but I’ve been running around and working on projects . . .
The blank space was gone when I went back.
That is so cool about the scarf.
You’re very welcome, Resa!
No worries, and THANKS!!! ❦

this is an amazing work – what a story, what a show, a tour de force, and the Jim Morrison quote at the end. Brava!!!!
Thank you, Beth!
Lol… Seems I can’t stop playing with dolls!
It was a fun project to do. Again, thank you!
Beautiful! Beautiful! Exotic and mysterious ! The most lovely gowns Barbie has ever worn as she traverses the adventures and mysteries contributed by our wonderfully talented bloggers … you are all so magical. And you dear Resa have gifted us with this amazing journey through doors and penguin and cats 🐈⬛and lands of mystery.
Im sending love and a big thank you for this awesome post !

Thank you dear Holly Meece!
I’m thrilled the post entertained you.
I have only done one other Doors challenge, and it was Dan’s annual one last year.
Robbie and Teagan sent in cool pics to work with.
It’s a great reason to Make Barbie Art Gowns. I have 7 now.
When the collection is larger, I’ll try to sell it. They are really well made, and made by hand.
I would love to hug penguins, and this post gave me the opportunity to, in my imagination.
It’s been super cold here for a week, and the heat is off. Now that the little gowns were made, I went back to Sad Cafe drawings. Lol, the one last night looks like a Frozen Popsicle Stick Cafe. The model is sooo stiff and wooden.
Anyway, I’m back to drawing for awhile. And I want to do Tina. My next street art post will be the garage door I sent you, with the Butterfly Poet Girl. I’ve got all the pics ready to go, and your poem.
Again, thank you and I adore you!!!

Wonderful post with so many beautiful gowns. Great story.
Thank you Tim! It was a fun creative project.
Also, I’m up to 7 Haute Couture handmade Barbie gowns.
When I get to 12 or more, I’ll try to sell them. There are a lot of collectors out there.
Thanks about the story! xx
Globe hopping adventures adorned in exquisite gowns. Thanks for the fantasy spinning travels, Resa.
You are welcome Cheyenne!
I sure had fun doing this. Thank you for checking out the post, and for your comment!
Dear, Resa — no wonder you were excited about this post. I adore it. I’m honored that my door images inspired (or helped to) such a delightful adventure. Your needlework amazes me — all those tiny details for doll-sized gowns. I would love a human-size version of any of them. I know the photo shoot was a lot of work, but I imagine it was also a lot of fun. Big hugs.
OMG! I missed this comment.
That’s what happens sometimes when I use the notifications bell.
Also, it’s cold as all get out here, and the heat’s off. I’ve been in the only room with a space heater, and my computer is in my den. Needless to say I’ve been popping in for 15, 20 mins. every once in awhile.
Teagan, your door images are wonderful. I adore penguins, and always feel like I want to hug one. So, in this tale, I get to hug a penguin!
Yes a lot of work, but fun, relaxing work.
Dan’s annual doors challenge is very cool.
Anyway, it is warming up tomorrow back to seasonal temps. I’m back to drawing, and sewing a human size gown.
Thank you for reading the post, and your womderful comment!
HUGS!!!
A fabulous post, Resa. Your creativity is outstanding and to produce those outfits in miniature shows how talented you are. Thank you for creating this lovely story. 🐂
Thank you dear John!
It was fun and relaxing making the little gowns.
Also, I wanted to tell a positive story, using the doors pics.
Now, onto the next project.

Thank you, Dawn!
It was quite a bit of fun!
Wow! Especially love that blue and black gown…
Aww, Thanks Becky! It was a lot of fun making these. I made doll clothes when I was young, but they did not look like these. However, in my imagination they did.
Wow! I have never seen Barbie look so elegant. Bravo!
Thank you, Cindy! ❦❦
Utterly enchanting! You’re so gifted with the costuming and so clever with the posing, staging, and lighting! This was a delight to read! And you know I love the Alice-in-Wonderland journey with a life-lesson at the end. 🙂
Thank you so much Camilla!
I suppose my years in the media industry, especially as a Costume Designer, have not quite left my spirit.
I find sewing relaxing, Zen!
💜 🎨💜
You’re a master (mistress? seamstress? 😉 ) of so many arts, Resa! I’m going to send the link for this post to the women in my online dream circle. (Two are from Toronto, one used to be a hardcore Barbie collector, and recently Barbie arose as the topic of someone’s dream. 🙂 )
Thank you, Camilla! ❦
My maternal grandmother had me stringing buttons with a needle and thread when I was 3. By 6 I was making crude doll clothes. LOL, they looked good in the front, but the backs were a mess.
Yes, send the link to Barbie collectors!!! Please! I’m sure they will appreciate it. ❦🌹❦
We had a whole conversation about Barbie in connection with someone’s dream. They’ll love it!
Yayayay!!!
Wow look at you go! Each one prettier than the last!
Aww, thank you, Eunice! In this way, sewing is an art form. It is the first creative thing i earned to do. xx
I can sew by hand but hated machines of past 🙂 I am crocheting two baby blankets while I sit at car shows. 🙂
I love crocheting! It is so relaxing, and yes, perfect way to not waste time while sitting, or waiting in lines.
Who are the baby blankets for? 🥰
One for my friend who is finally becoming a grandmother her daughter and another for a baby who was born much too young but who has finally come home ❤
Anytime away from a phone or computer is good for me 🙂
That sounds wonderful Eunice! What a lovely gift for the mothers and babies.
YES! I take big chunks of time away from my computer, and when I go for walks, I do Airplane mode, so only my camera works.
xo
it is the way to enjoy our lives.
Exactly!
Wow, this is awesome, Resa, best wedding, best gowns and the story is s
Wonderful. Love Robbie and her spider in the limelight too! Brilliant!!!

Thank you dear Cindy! Isn’t it crazy what inspires creativity?
A few pics, a Doors Challenge and this happens.
Thank you so very much for taking the time to read, and leave this wonderful comment!

Ah, Resa, your talent was definitely on show here!!
I loved them all. Our younger daughter is just back from Japan, so I particularly noticed that outfit. I have to see if I have your email so I can share a photo of her in a fabulous costume.
Thank you Janet, for checking out the post, and leaving this wonderful comment!
I’d love to see the photo!
I’ll use the email attached to your blog, and send you my email!
Sent mail!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this illustrated story! It was such fun to see Robbie’s and Teagan’s images included. And, of course, the gowns! (The first one is my favorite. I love the fabric.)
Yayay! Thank you, Liz!
Ahh, the first gown, made from the hand batik scarf from my M-i-L. You have classy taste, Liz!
I’m not into challenges, often, but I do like this annual Doors one over at Dan’s.
You’re welcome, Resa!! This was such a fun post.
Yayay!
Oh my, how amazing!! What amazing gowns you’ve created for Genevive, love them all!! Blue is my favorite color and the one for the South Africa wedding is absolutely stunning, simply incredible!! How long did it take you to handmake each of these intricate gowns? Your talent knows no bounds, dear. Thanks for taking us to this beautifully creative and fun journey with Genevive!!
Love, love, love!! Sending you the warmest hugs! XOXO
What a lovely comment, thank you Ruth!
I worked on the gowns for about 2 months, in the evenings. It’s been a gas, but now I’m happy to get back to drawing and sewing a real size Art Gown.
Interesting thing about creativity; the more I create, the more and more I create.
I would LOVE to design a hard core gown movie. It almost happened. Then….Covid hit.
It was a brilliant bio flick project about Ann Cole Lowe. She designed Jacquie Kennedy’s wedding dress. No one knew for a long time (I thinK until the 80’s) who designed it, because she was black.
It’s not just that gown, her story is brilliant, descended from slaves, designed memorable gowns for the early stars at the first Oscars, etc.
It still has not materialized. One of the reasons is the cost. Reproducing her famous gowns alone is an entire movie’s budget for say, your passion project. The gowns would run into hundreds of thousands.
You’d need couture seamstresses. I could go on!
Anyway, the film needs to be made. People need to know about her. She has been a latter inspiration to me.
LOVE, love back to you dear Ruth! XOXOXO
Your creativity is so inspiring Resa!
Wow, I did not know about Ann Cole Lowe but I absolutely agree, her story needs to be told one day!! Hope one day it does happen, how cool would that be if you get to work on that project!!
I think it’s worth it to invest in the costume design for such an important film. I think the power of an extraordinary gown would elevate any film. I remember this movie, Mrs Harris Goes to Paris, which is a cute, rather frothy movie. There’s a stunning Dior gown that Mrs. Harris stumbled upon (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5151570/mediaviewer/rm1560481793/?ref_=ttmi_mi_25) and it took my breath away (just like it did to her!)
XOXOXOXO ❦ ♡ ♥
The Dior gown is stunning!
When I went to fashion College, I figured I’d be Canada’s first Dior. Turns out Couturier is a European thing.
Yes, in a movie about Ann Cole, you would have to invest in the gowns. Many, many are well remembered and worn by famous people.
I mean, you could not change Jacquie’s wedding gown. It’s a matter of historical fact.
That would be like getting Daffy Duck to play Bugs Bunny.
LOL… anyway, I do hope they make it. It is an amazing story.
XOXOXOXO🌹
I cannot imagine the labor that went into this, not to mention imagination! You certainly understand detail!
Thank you for this lovely comment!
I have been told by producers, actors and directors that they appreciate my attention to detail.
Thank you so much for picking up on that!
One never knows where they will end up walking through mysterious doors. A beautiful display of pageantry. Thanks Resa. Sunday hugs ❤ xox ❤
Thank you dear Debby!
A little pageantry once in awhile is great for a smile!
Sunday hugs back! Yes, yes..it’s still Sunday! LOL

You have inspired a story in each one of your photos, Resa. You simply have a marvellous sense of glamour, fashion, art and storytelling. This is the third time around for me and I will be coming back again! Sending many, many hugs!
Rebecca!
I missed this one! Good thing I’m checking comments 1 by 1.
I’m thrilled you like the post. I did try to weave some upshot and moral into this wee story.
The mini gown sewing was just what I needed to relax. Now, Back to big sewing and drawing!
HUGS!
That sounds lovely, Resa! It’s such a good thing to relax with sewing and drawing—creative time is such a gentle way to unwind and recharge.
Wow, Resa, this story with its stunning gowns and images is absolutely incredible! I love all the gowns, but especially the one in South Africa. What an imaginative tale and collaboration with Teagan, Robbie, and Dan. I remember Robbie’s spider and was thankful that was the only arachnid image. 😬 Otherwise, amazing, amazing! I can’t even think about the time it took you to create those gorgeous gowns. Thank you for this! Hugs 🥰❤️💐💐💐
Thank you dear Lauren!
You know, I thought about you when I was writing the spider part. Honestly, I thought, I need to capture this spider so Lauren feels safe! You’ll notice I even finished it off with some sort of martial arts chops!
This annual challenge was lots of fun, and I was thrilled and honoured to work with Teagan and Robbie’s pics.
Anyway, I’m happy to get back to drawing and sewing a real size gown now.
Hugs! 🌸🌟🌸🌸🌟🌸
Oh, Resa, you are so funny, but thank you for keeping me safe! LOL It’s always fascinating to see your stunning creations! Hugs and Happy sewing! 💕🧵🪡🥰🌺

Fancy and fun! No where near your talent, however you inspire me to sew. I need a new sewing machine. 😊 Wonderful talent! 👏🏻
Thank you kindly, Michele!
I need a new sewing machine too, but I’ve been enjoying sewing by hand. I find it relaxing.
This is a lovely comment! 💜
Just thinking about sewing by hand sounds relaxing. You’re welcome, Resa. 💜🙏🏻

Your creativity oozes through the page and doors so creatively and you pulled out the stops with Genivieve on the runway! Impressive narrative for sure and just what we need right now. A little distraction in an oh so good way!!!!
🙌🙌🙌🌹🌹🌹🌹🙌🙌🙌
Aww, thank you Cindy!
Yes, it is meant to be a positive message.
It was a great distraction sewing these little pieces. In some ways it takes more concentration than the big pieces.
Im very happy you like this!

So much fun and imagination, I love when you all collaborate on these posts!😊
Thank you Tiffany!
It is fun, 100%, and I’m glad it shows. 🌹
Hi Resa, my word, what a wonderful story you have written and illustrated here. You really should turn this into a picture book. Your dress creations are magnificent and I would love to have the blue ‘South African’ gown although they are all simply stunning. Thank you for including my photographs in this delightful tale. I am thrilled. I’m late because my husband has been admitted into hospital for tests. This is such a fantastic post after a few long days and a few more to come. Huge hugs.
Oh no! I hope your husband is okay. Your life needs a break from the medical industry, big time. ❦💙
No worries about late or whatever. No one is sick around here, and I can’t keep up. I’m always coming from behind.
Ah, thank you, Robbie!
Well, Mattel might not like that, unless they were involved with the book.
I suppose I could find a generic knock-off 12″ fashion doll, change the hair and make-up.
Anyway, I’m thrilled you like the post. Your doors were inspiring (as were Teagan’s) It was neat to tie in reality with fantasy.
I did some research and was thrilled to find how beautiful, original, and all encompassing the South African brides are about their gowns. It seemed to me the sky is the limit on creativity.
Huge hugs back, and again, thanks for the inspiration!
Best wishes to your hubs!
HUGS!
Totally need an Art Gown Barbie! You should pitch it to Mattel, Resa. ;0)
Good idea, but I need someone to do it for me. I am not business minded.
I’ll pay a percentage!
Yeah, you definitely need a marketing person. You can’t be this glamorous alone! 😂🤗😘
Hahahahaha!
Barbie, in Sustainable Glamour Gowns. It’s got a now ring to it!
Lovely, Resa! What an imagination as well, and I love the gowns!
Olga,
Thank you for popping by and your wonderful comment!
Well beyond amazing. Some of those dresses–I wish I had somewhere to wear them!
Thanks Jacqui!
LOL, I wish I had somewhere to wear them, too! At least when I make them for a Barbie, she can wear them everywhere, even on another planet.
WordPress isn’t letting me comment, so I’m trying it as a reply. 🙃🙃
What a wonderful, creative post, Resa! Genevieve (Barbie) never looked so elegant, and I loved the story and the poses. 😀 I was delighted to see the antique pineapple and gold threaded fabric in the mix. What a treat and an honor. You have a way of making me smile with every post, my friend, and this was a creative adventure. Huge hugs.
WP sigh!!!!
I’ve taken to checking the green subscribe box in the lower right. If it’s not there or not green, I keep refreshing until it is.
Otherwise comments EF_UP!
I was thrilled to find an Art Gowns use for that fabric. It was perfect.
I am happy it made you happy.
Thank you for enjoying the adventure!
HUGS!!
I was logged in, but it kept erroring out and telling me over and over again to log in. Sigh. But I found a way! It’s a super post, Resa. What fun.
Glad you found a way! Now that you are here, I have time to read another chapter of OG!
🙂 🙂
What a truly delightful post dear Resa with wonderful creations of gowns. I am sure both Teagan and Robbie and Diana are truly impressed with your designs and story line…
Sindy dolls takes me back…. I made many a new dress and knitted new sweaters for both Sindy and Ken.. 🙂 for my granddaughter… In fact I had saved the dolls she would play with at our home. And asked her only in the beginning of this year did she want them as she is now 14 and much grown up 🙂
I think I was more bereft when she said no… So I put them in a charity bag along with her wardrobes and accessories,
Your post brought back many happy hours of playing with her with them as we created stories, weddings, parties etc..
Loved your photography skills … Truly Wonderful Resa xx ❤
Sue,
This was for sure a joy of love energy stitching.
Even taking the pics was a frolic of glee.
Your granddaughter might want that doll in 15 years?
Anyway, I bought this Barbie in 1985 (ish)
In a way I think I wanted to relive some of my youth with the doll.
Now, it’s a happiness to make little mini gowns. Somewhere along the way I fell in love with gowns. It’s the craftsmanship that’s required, a craft that is vanishing from our horizons.
Thank you for your visit, and this wnderful comment!
xo🌟💖🤗🌟xo
A fun little story. Barbie, I mean Genevieve, was stunning in all of her outfits, no matter where she was in the world. 100 piece made of pineapple strands? Wow! i remember when you posted about Diana’s gift to you. That is very cool, and the fabric looks great! So mini-Art Gowns.
Lol, I changed Barbie’s name for the story I don’t want Mattel coming after me.
Yes, it is mini Art Gowns. I bought nothing new. I used all gifts(which are all old things) and scraps.
I’m thrilled I found a use for that Pineapple fabric Diana sent me.
Thank you so much for coming by, Trent! I know how wonderfully busy you are with the menagerie of loved ones. Of course Ledecky knows she is the most important.
I guess the term “puppy love” has roots.
Wow, already 10:39. I need to walk away from this machine, and go draw!
Actually. “puppy love” – every time a puppy meets someone, that person is the love of their life! That is my take from watching Ledecky 😉
How adorable! ☺️
This is very well succeeded collaboration. I like this story it is so romantic and also so true, very good one. I wonder your skills, you can make amazing dresses and I think you have made these hairdones too. When I am looking at your works I think you must be a really romantic girl, you do your things so totally with your heart, soul and emotions. You are very mysterious and I like it👍😊
Merci beaucoup pour vos gentils mots!
Yes, I design and make the gowns, and I did make the hairdo’s on the Barbie doll.
I was trained couturier, and love all of the arts. All of my friends are musicians and artists.
I’m glad you think I’m mysterious. I like that!
I’ve been drawing portraits of rock stars, recently. I’ll show you one in a comment on your blog.
It is always a joy to visit your blog, because you are very talented. 🎼🌟
I can see that you are professional and you make your art so detailed way, that looks very beautiful. Have a great weekend, I must take a quick business trip but I am back on Monday 😊
Have a fab weekend!
Thank you, I hope your weekend was great👍
It was, and then there was another weekend.
I wasn’t on this blog for a week, so please pardon my tardy reply.

Sorry for the late reply. I’ve been over on my other blog.
Yes, I closed comments because it’s a reblog. It’s a series I do with my blog pal Holly. She does a bio, and I draw the pic. She does the post, then I reblog.
Thank you so much for commenting. I am very happy with the drawing. It is my first full figure portrait!
