Flora Blanca

Did you ever have to move a bevy of jaded “Art Gowns” to a new “WordPress” site?

It would be easier to transplant a garden to another city!

Penn test

That’s why this “Art Gown” is inspired by and dedicated to my beloved niece Sherrie. She is the only person I know who would actually help me dig up an entire garden, lug it then replant it.

Hence, I decided to do a Garden themed “Art Gown”

Penn #5_2

Of course wool and paper popped immediately into my mind.

Penn #12Not just anyPenn #10 wool, but a pure, fine and all natural wool, fit for the Pope’s cassock.

Not just any paper, but pictures of Roses, Begonias, Peonies, Lilies, Orchids and Poppies by “Irving Penn”.

Yes, I cut up the entire book. It is a true labor of love cutting around the beads of dew, thorns, intricate ruffles and fine hairs of Mr. Penn’s” photographs.

The GownPenn #9

itself is

based

on an

Orchid.

I used 2

bottles

of clear

drying

craft glue . If I made this on a display Judy, it could be varnished and made into a decoupage type sculpture.

“Art Gowns” remind me of the mid nineteen hundreds Hollywood Movie Glamor. That’s why I love the Black & White treatment.

Thanks for helping me move my garden!

  2. *BLUSH*. No one can make me feel as special as you do. To have a masterpiece dedicated to me is truly an honor! Now if only I had Judy’s body I’d have er made lol.

A million thank yous!! For this amazing work of art, for how you make me feel and for loving me the way you do. I love you so much Auntie Resa! XOXOXOXO

    1. My dearest Sherrie,
It’s been a life-long love! You know, you have been very inspiring, educational (wink) and the most fun to be with. You are my dearest darling in the world. Love Auntie Resa – XOXOXOXOXO

      1. ‘LOL’ Imelda! I think you can turn anything into a story! Although, it does sound quite interesting… the gown looks for the princess. Thank you so much for coming by the new site! 🙂 🙂

    1. That is such a fab vision! Thank you! (I’d love to be a CT book!)
I also want to do some other “Art Gown” endorsed Posts like “Poetry Shirts”, “Romantic Recipe Shirts”, DIY gowns, DIY “Art Gowns” accessories, I want to have fun here!

            1. Hi Eunice!
You had sent me a comment on My Queen’s end Blog, asking how I was doing.
              I replied:
Pretty good! Thanks Eunice! How’s about you? Just wish I had more time to get my sites re-organized!
Just in case you replied to my reply, and it doesn’t work, it is because I am making headway over there.
As you know I am moving everything around, and the URL resamcconaghy.com (which was Queen’s end), is now my CV site. Blogging is now here on “Art Gowns” and on Queen’s end which is now at queensend.wordpress.com. I haven’t had much time to do anything there, but I’ve always wanted to write so if and when I do, I’ll do it there. 🙂 HOPE YOU ARE WELL!!

              1. nutsfortreasure

I am awesome I am going to try to get all your stuff straight I have you on Facebook right?

              2. Dear Eunice,
                I’m not on Facebook.
I know I said I’d like to start an “Art Gowns” page, but I can barely find time to work on WordPress.
Don’t give up on me! “Lol” I’ll get it all together, eventually! 🙂

  3. Be still my heart. Irving pen flowers AND Resa’s creations. Every gown is a breath stopper. I think THIS is the one. This is my favorite. Then the next gown sashays into the room to an enormous round of applause. Bravo Resa. Virginia

    1. Thank you, Virginia! The flowers were a lot of fun to cut out, and actually took days to place. I’m so glad you like it! I think I like the idea of my “Art Gowns” sashaying around! What a neat word. Resa

  4. Oh how amazing this is Resa. The concept of basing the gown foundation on the Orchid — wow! And what you did with these magnificent floral images from Irving Penn’s book — how on earth? I love everything about this. Sherrie must be in awe. I agree with Wendy — you need a coffee table book of these. I am first on list to purchase it. I think it would be beautiful, and soooo special. Bring on the 1900s cinematic glamour gowns by Ms. Resa. Each one is more magnificent than the last. Brava my dear F-G-S. You are so talented and brilliant inside and out – this collection reflects that so well! Love to you ~ Robyn

    1. Dearest Robyn,
Love to you, too… for all your support and wonderful words. My F-G-S really does get the “Art Gown” concept! Who knows where this will all end up, but I think the “Art Gowns” having a home of their own is a good start.
A Coffee Table Book is actually a very good idea, I just need to build up the collection!
Sherrie is thrilled! She is like a daughter to me. I love her very much!
Robyn, I’m so happy you came here! Your F-G-S _ Resa xoxo

        1. Thank you for asking, Sharla!

Yes, Queen’s end will still exist, although in the near future I will move it from the URL resamcconaghy.com to queensend.wordpress.com

I have moved things over there and have it “Private” while I revamp it back to what I always wanted it to be, for writing, something different from my designing. I’ve written 2 books, but I keep getting sidetracked, so nothing happens.

Most Designers in my business have professional CV sites with demo reels etc. A couple of producers have searched me, and wound up at Queen’s end. Producers/directors etc should wind up at Resa McConaghy’s CV site (not a Blog). My name is Resa McConaghy, therefore I need the URL resamcconaghy.com for that professional situation. (Hindsight is 50/50)

The “Art Gowns” just kind of crept in…. and I think that is normal because I am a Designer.
However, I think the “Art Gowns” have commercial/art/branding potential on their own, which is why they have their own site now. I have other creative/clothing/accessories/DIY ideas I’d like to incorporate under the “Art Gowns” branding.

          Does this make sense?
Again, thank you for asking, Sharla!

    Nice reading about you

Thanks for visiting my blog. Be in touch. Browse through the category sections, I feel you may find something of your interest.

        1. OMG! Are you saying someone has cut those beautiful flowers away? That’s not good.
I had a beautiful lily garden once, thick with blooms. One afternoon I saw all the lily blooms on the ground. Someone had used maybe a machete and hewed them all down!
          Take care!

  8. Dear Sharla,
How kind of you to send me this lovely good wish!
I know you are going through what may be the most difficult time of your life right now, and that you can even consider anyone else is beyond kind.
I was made very emotional when I read about your husband in your blog yesterday. Spending my Mom’s last 3 months with her as she faded from this earth was one of the saddest, hardest, yet most important things I’ve ever done.
I’ve been with my N for 30 years (since teens) and when I put myself in your shoes, I felt a lot of sorrow and pain.
Your poem was very, very beautiful!.
My heart goes out to you! Please take care of yourself as you proceed on this journey.
Your have my email. Please feel free to reach out at any time.

Sincerely, with love and respect and hugs,
    Resa

  9. How incredibly beautiful, Resa; Sherrie must be delighted..! &
What a BIG job to move all your beautiful gowns here. Though I must say this blog looks adorable… Love to you…. xoxoxo

    1. Oh Carolyn!!!! How wonderful to hear from you!
Thank you, and yes it is a big job. I have been fumbling through in my creative way.

Did you see my CV site … resamcconaghy.com ?
I’m still working on it. I’m thinking of pitching some Agents with it.
The way I have always done my thing is …I do it my way.
So happy to hear from you my dear Carolyn! I hope you are well, and … I love you in a way, even though we have never met!
kisses and hugs and you rock! ♥♥♥♥♥ _Resa

      1. Yes, I had a quick look this morning (at your CV site) and a further look just now… Very clever, and very YOU…! 😉

I am very well, Thank You. I’m so happy to be inspired to ‘take a peek’, and to leave a message too… I am quite busy with one thing and another, though, like you, I have the need to ‘stay in touch’; even if only with a little message every now and then.. xoxoxo

  10. Wow, Resa! As a lover of flowers, gardens and the like-I must say this dress is fabulous! Good luck with all your website changes…I’ve been toying with that myself and haven’t had the nerve to do anything yet. Too busy sketching and creating!

    1. Thanks for the encouragement! All the changes are a big deal right now, but should settle down at some point.
Your flowers are gorgeous and I’m glad you had a chance to see this gown! _Resa

    1. Ah, Thanks Jenny! I just love my “Art Gowns” They are like imaginary people to me.
I thought they would be a great “Branding” for a line of “Art Gown” items.
This is why I found your recent article so very interesting!
      Take care! Hugs_Resa

    1. How sweet of you, Francina! The gowns are almost people to me at this point. I’m working on another one… straying creatively, but just letting it flow! _Resa ♥♥♥ to you Francina!

    1. Sweet Corina, thank you so very much. My gowns mean a lot to me.
I can hardly wait to design another one, but alas, I’m on a shoot on location for 2 more months. SIGH! The very best to you! _Resa

    1. Thank you, Valentina! I just finished my new Art Gown, and she’s also a floral lady. I hope you’ll like her too! It will take about 4 days to take pics and make a post. See you then, andhave a great weekend! 😀
