The Gift

Hello dahling Kat!  We’re here to say ThankYou for the wonderful gift of old fabrics, starting with a 40 pound box, that showed up in the mail one day!

Look! I just have to drape them over and around me, and it looks like a gown. Still, several gowns have been made largely out of the gifts you’ve sent.

Here to tell all about the creations is AG’s Art Director. Take it away Rebecca!

Thank you, Rene! Not only has Kat sent enough fabric to cover a few elephants, I’m standing here wearing and holding vintage clothing, scarves, pillow shams, lace and such that she has tossed in.

Check out the cat walk! Art Gowns Model Shey looks like one of her romance novel heroines in her dedicated Art Gown, Jade.

Jade is crafted from yardage of a chartreuse-esque poly silk-satin of sorts, 2 vintage decorator pillow shams & many metres of reclaimed ribbon.

On the runway, Μοντέλο Art Gowns Marina, models Belle Grâce. Belle Grâce, Tim’s dedicated Art Gown, is made from a mid-weight satin in pink & 2 shades of gold, with white curtain sheers.

AGM Holly, in Spring Rhapsody, holds the tail as she walks. The copper satin of the gown is strange… possibly upholstery goods, and is somewhat heavy. Spring Rhapsody is topped with a vintage pillow slip, and adorned with various cut cloth bits, scraps of fine lace and vintage gold buttons.

On this occasion, Holly has written a poem especially for Kat.

Modèle de robes d’art Gigi found out how much Kat adores the Chicklets. She sends a message!

Displaying the main fabric for what will be her dedicated Art Gown, AGM Dale knows that there’s a lot to do to finish it, but that it is well under way!

And now back to RR for a parting message!

Thank you Rebecca! In closing I’m leaving these songs for Kat; one for being a mush head and one for fun.

Such a lovely post. So amazing what you’ve done with 40 pounds of fabric. One of the first songs our garage band played back in the 70s was Rocky Mountain Way. My friend mentions our garage band days quite often when we talk on the phone. Fun memories.

    1. Thank you, Tim! Lol! There’s still more fabric, even after I finish Dale’s Art Gown.
Some one else, a blogger pal sent a box of antique linens and lace.
Tim, so many gowns to make, so little time.
Hey, RMW is so cool. Do you still ever play it… a few riffs, the intro? xx

      1. Timothy Price's avatar Timothy Price

No, I don’t. I should pick it up again. I usually don’t play covers unless I’m doing parodies. I probably should learn some classic songs.

        1. It could be a good one to either pick up, or do a parody to. Watching the video, I realize Walsh plays slide.
Slide guitar is a fab idea for you!
You gotta play some slide! xo

  2. Such a fantastic THANK YOU going out to Kat, Resa. Spectacular from top to bottom. I too would like to tip my hat to Kat, such a lovely gesture. A big thanks to you Kat, I know your gift will bring us all a lot of joy, fun, and delight when Resa weaves her magic with those fabrics. Dahling Resa Meece, this tribute is truly beautiful, the art, the music, the AGM’s modeling your handiwork. You’re a creative genius, no doubt about it. Thank you for letting me play a small role, it was a true honor. You are a gift to us all. xoxoxoxoxoxoxox

    1. Dear Holly Meece,
Thank you for this beyond lovely comment & helping me with this post. Your work and additions help add a lot of heart.
I hadn’t seen Kat for ages, when she called out of the blue. When she found out about Art Gowns, she immediately sent me the first box of cast off, mostly NOS fabrics.
As a gown nut, she has sent many ideas, and we now have long chats on the phone while sewing.
      You should see her beadwork!
Meece, you are a gift to me, too. Having inspired so many ideas, I must have you around.
I can’t leave a spoiler here, but I have the most hilarious idea for when Bezella attacks the AGMs & picks a fight with PBH.

      1. Your friendship with Kat sounds like great fun and very special. I’m sure you were thrilled to receive her gift of fabrics , I’m looking forward to seeing their metamorphosis when you weave your magic.
I’m already laughing anticipating Belleza. You have a wickedly fun and brilliant imagination and you know I’m all into that. You are so special to me my dear friend. I couldn’t do without you around to ignite my own creativity and just to brighten the day. We all adore you… especially me. Meeces have to stick together.

          Nothing like a creative spree!
Funny how I just finish a batch of drawings, then want to do more.
Well, you know what gowns I’m up to next!
I’ve got a couple of drawings, believe it or not, from the Boer War era. They’re under way.
We will be onto the new AGM gowns shortly!
          xoxoxo

            1. Yeah. I read “A Ghost and his Gold” by Roberta Cheadle. It’s about the Boer War. I learned a lot, basically having known nothing about it.
I’ll bee doing a review on Glam! 🪡🧵- perfect colour thread for Dale’s Art Gown!
              xoxoxo

    1. Aww, thank you, Merril! A gift like this is a thing to be thankful for. So are all my blog pals who let me draw them, and let me put them in the Gowntoons!
      …. and all blog pals! 😊 ✨

  3. Great post! Love all of the drawings. It was a great gift, indeed, and seems to be going to good use in your capable hands. Can’t wait to see the finished Dale’s dedicated gown. The drawing reminds me of a grownup Disney Princess.

    1. LOL… a grown up Disney Princess. I take that as a grown up compliment.
      Thank you, Trent!!!!
I did costumes for a couple of Disney movies for the Disney Channel.
One was the original “Cheetah Girls”. It was a great project!
I was working on the bodice for Dale’s gown today. So exciting!

  4. You’re amazing, Resa, and I love the drawings as well as the real gowns. What you do with reclaimed fabric is inspiring. You have some delightful models too, including the chicklets. Beware or they’ll steal the limelight. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Diana!
I know, those Chicklets are glory grabbers!
Making these Art Gowns has become a joy in my life. It’s an odd creativity…. kind of painting/sculpting with fabric.

So, I saw a gowns something that piqued my interest. A big trend in Japan right now is reworking vintage kimonos into wedding dresses.
They usually mix with other white fabric, but not exclusively.
I own a kimono that’s inherited. It’s at least 50 years old. It’s one of the many ideas I have for the antique laces & whites.
      It’s a wildly exciting thought! xx 🙂

      1. That’s very cool! Whatever comes to your mind will be gorgeous. “Painting/sculpting with fabric” is the perfect way to describe what you do. I can see it. I hope the idea of reclaiming fabrics catches on here. You’re a trend-setter with your art gowns, and each unveiling feels like an event.

        1. ….Like a book release; a gown release! Lol
I’m onto drawing Estelle (from AG&HG) now.
So I’d say I’ll start to read “Catling’s Bane” in about 10 days. I’m quite excited! huggos

    2. I agree, Diana. What Resa does with reclaimed fabric is magic. What I most appreciate is Resa’s dedication to reducing waste and conserve resources. She takes fabric that would otherwise end up in landfills and creates amazing gowns that encourage us to live sustainably.

      1. That’s so admirable, Rebecca. I’d love to see this become a thing with international fashion shows and tons of people learning to sew. Resa certainly leads the way and shows us what’s possible. I can still fit into my high school clothes, and I wear them (until they disintegrate). Lol.

  5. THIS is truly incredible. The fabric, the designs, the gowns and the models, a wonderful tribute to your friend. Amazing. Many chirps and peeps from the chicklets and thank you from me. It’s fabulous.

    1. Thank you, Gi! The Chicklets are a bit of a post stealer, but this was expected!
Thank you so much for letting them come to play!
I love drawing and making the Art Gowns, and it’s so fab that you like them! Big Hugs! xx

  6. You have the ‘gift’, young lady. Yet another wonderful post that one just had to read. Well done. By the way, the Carole King number is the song I go to on those dark days when the world is against me. As ever, all the best, TOF

  7. …and what a GIFT you are to all of us, dahling!
I’m overwhelmed by the beauty you share.
    How wonderful of Kat!
    I LOOOOOOOVE your drawings, dahling!
and there’s someone else who’s also overjoyed!
    yep, you guessed it!
    😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾
    ❤️😘❤️😘❤️😘❤️😘❤️😘❤️😘❤️😘❤️😘❤️😘❤️😘

    1. Aww, Thank you! YES, lots of gowns to make here. AND another box from a fellow blogger showed up with extreme treasures.
      Guess I’d better get sewing!
Drawings are getting better! I’m very excited about the next instalment of “Gowntoons”.
Beautiful gowns and hilarious nincompoop bad guys!

  8. Wow, Resa, this post is a gift to us as are you! Lovely models, gorgeous gowns, great music, and adorable chicklets! Everything you create is amazing, and the Jade gown is one of my faves. Congrats to all on this fab presentation! ❤️⭐️🎉

    1. Thank you dear Lauren!
The Chicklets are a post stealer, and they have such great gown ideas.
Jade is a beauty. Then again, the gowns are a bit like one’s children. It’s hard for me to pick a fave.
Again, thank you, and I am so happy to see you! xo❤️⭐️🎉

    1. Thank you, Roberta! Jade is gorgeous. For me, I don’t know… I like them all best at different times.
It’s a wonderful gift, and it’s going to good use.
I have to think that one day a movie star will wear one of my sustainable glamour gowns to an event, instead of a designer brand.
Anyway, I drew Estelle last night, a warm up drawing if you will.
I’ll get that to you (for feedback) tomorrow, with another question.

  9. Resa – your gift to all of us is your friendship, which is deeply rooted in your love for the environment, art, and beauty. Your passion for the natural world and your appreciation for the artistic expressions of beauty serve as a constant source of inspiration for everyone around you. I am grateful to be your friend. We may be on opposite sides of Canada, but I know that we share the same pathway.

    1. Rebecca,
You are amazing! You were one of the first to see my Art Gowns as art, and not just fancy clothing.
Dressing you all up in my creations via my drawings is lots of fun. It’s like paper dolls on steroids.
We are on a wonderful path, and I am grateful you are here walking with me.
Also, thank you for thanking Kat. She’ll try making a comment tomorrow via email or FB.
      Make art not war.
      Make art not trash.
Art seems to have a place everywhere! Hugs!

    1. Thanks, Alaedin! Drawing and sewing require focus. It’s a rewarding escape of sorts.
My meagre background in drawing is fashion illustration. So, I’ve been building on that. 🌺🦋🌺🦋🌺🦋

  10. What a delight this post is, Resa! With my love of fabrics, I can imagine your thrill at getting that huge package. You know I love your sketches. I particularly love your concept of the pink and gold gown… and the wildly fun mix in the brown/gold/green one near the end. Such a fun visit. Hugs.

    1. Yay!
      Thanks for dropping by,Teagan!
I got another surprise in the mail. One of our blog pals sent me a box of antique laces & linens from the early 1900’s.
I’m thrilled you had fun here! HUGS!!!

    1. Aww, you are welcome.
There are many smiles here today.
      Yours is one I adore.
      Happy Thanksgiving to you, Brian!
Do you celebrate the feast in Mexico?
      🧡🍁🍂🧡

          1. Haha! This is a relatively new Mac. The emojis and a bunch on other controls are on a tactile bar at the top of the keyboard. I found the way. I suspect the new operating system just changed the “timing and sweeping” of the icons. 🙄

  11. Wow Resa, this is such a textile treat! Love all of the gowns and intro to Kat. You 2 really know how to get our attention and not to forget mention of our very own Holly strutting her stuff. Great fun! 💕

  12. Bloody hell! I got a cramp scrolling down to the comment box (serves me right for being so late – even if I had the perfect excuse ;- )
You, my darling Sorceress are amazing. Kat is beyond generous and how lucky to have one such friend who donates pounds of material!
My dress colours are spectacular and I cannot wait (though I will, because masterpieces take time to create).
Gigi’s chicklets are outstanding and Rene’s poem, perfection.
Rebecca is a pro and MCing!
You are surrounded by such talented peeps, my friend.
I love that you have received antique linens and lace, to boot. Oh the creations that shall come to be…

    1. Well, so I get the same cramps at your place. LOL!
I knew you’d be late! No worries. xxoo
I’m replying from my Glam account, where I am logged in.
      I’m happily drowning in fabrics.
Kat wants to comment, so we need to take real time together, and I can walk her through commenting with email….or maybe FB?
I’m working on the bodice darts right now, and dreaming of the tail and embellishments.
      Skirt zipper goes in tomorrow!
      ⚡️💥 xoxoxo

      1. Hahaha! Fair enough!
Of course. I know you are jiggy wid it. xoxo
        Lovely.
        And I bet you are!
Awww… That’s great. She can through email.
Oooooohhhh… I cannot wait to see what you create, you wonderful woman, you!
        💞🧚‍♀️🌟💞

        1. LOL! Thunder, you are fast!!!! I did reply. Something glitchy going on for me today on WP.
          What else is new?
I came to do a New Years post!
          Happy Happy!!!! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

              1. You were there!
There’s so many holiday posts, who knows what the?
Okay, set for midnight! We’ll all be busy then, but I figure tomorrow is soon enough for comments. WOOT! xoxoxo

  13. Gifts of fabric, how wonderful!! I imagine you opening it and the delight and ideas and that came to your mind thinking about the “gowns to be”! Keep creating, dear friend 👗💗

    1. Hello Cindy!
      Sorry for my tardy reply.
Thank you for your lovely comment!
I’ve been away from this blog for a bit, and YES I will be busy.
      I’m abut 1/2 through a new gown.
