A Tangle of Scribbles

🌹Dahlings, welcome to “A Tangle of Scribbles”!  Rene Rosso here presenting Art Gowns’ third Tangle Tribute to Tim from Off Center Not Even, for his gift of pencils & other art supplies for One-Eye.

I now hand over the mike to our Art Director Rebecca Budd. Rebecca has single-handedly brought back the fad of Palazzo Pants, aka, “the gown of trousers”.

Good evening! During the great pencil drought of 2021, One-Eye had no other course but to do a line of Art Gowns scribbled in black, blue and red ballpoint pen. It’s an exciting collection, so let’s check out the catwalk.

AGM Marina had the first fitting. Being the artistic type, she chose this wild “Why do I have to draw ballpoint scribble gowns?” venting style.

Although AGM Shey lost weight from all the DracGoth 3 am visits , it was good news during fittings. She was the only one who could get into this one shoulder, side tail, super slim scribble-off.

I’m Thrilled to present our special guest, 🌟Lala LaSwirl🌟! Spokes-Singer for the AIDAS & good….ah..erm… friend of Rene Rosso. Lala really knows how to rock a scribble gown with scribble boa.

AGM Dale goes Hollywood in this snazzy and unsuspected array of thunder scribbles.

Heeeere’s Holly! This sweet AGM chose a back and forth arrangement of scribbling, with scribbled floral accents.

Gigi, the cat’s pyjamas, is an AGM class act. She’s featured here in this asymmetric hip line featuring gradating scribbles skirt, and scribbled hip bow.

🎼 Now,  on to tonight’s music  entertainment! 🎼

Hello dahlings! I’m honoured to be wearing the first scribble gown that was created. Of course it was designed especially for me!

I’m also thrilled to be doing a cover of “The Look Of Love”. My favourite rendition is the one by the most amazing, Diana Krall.

“Unfortunately the red, black and blue ballpoints ran out of ink, just as my gown was being scribbled up.”

“One-Eye was forced to use pink, turquoise and purple gel pens. I just love it! I feel like singing!”

A FEW WORDS FROM ONE-EYE

The art supply store near me, perhaps the biggest in Toronto, has been a Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard for a year. A high quality pencil is important to me. I mentioned to AGM Holly that I was down to my last low quality pencil, so she & Tim started a swear jar. Within a day they saved enough for Tim to buy me all these pencils!!!! 😉

Tim went beyond the call, and bought me an array of lead types. He sent me red watercolour pencils for RR & PBH’s hair – pink & turquoise for Lala’s upcoming gowns – black, white and ochre, (mine are down to stumps). I got 4 kneaded erasers, 4 pencil stump holders and a special coffee cup, for my coffee when I’m drawing.

Also, since November the shops in Toronto have been closed, except for 2 weeks in March. Things going well, they will reopen with 15% capacity, hopefully in a week tomorrow. I’m sure shelves will still be bare for awhile.

🎨 With this wonderful gift, I will be able to hold out for quite awhile! 🎨

A Bouquet of Holly

Holly, as Rene Rosso; drawn to 3 hours of Janis Joplin.

Good evening! Welcome to A Bouquet of Holly. I’m AGM Marina, your host for this Art Gowns Special.

It all began when Resa wanted to say Thank you to Holly for posting a Cheetah Girls video. Click on the pic of my new gown (above) and visit the post!

Resa (One-Eye) is ever thankful to Holly – House of Heart for all the inspiration over the years, and quite frankly it’s about time that a gala event was held in her honour.

Yes, Resa wrote that poem, for Holly. Not quite the same as a Holly poem, but still delivers a heartfelt message.

When I was asked to host, I immediately thought of two gifts, two paintings for Holly.

“One for the ocean during sunset or dawn [Holly time 🥰]
Atom Sea No18 Watercolour”
We will get into my second gift shortly, but first I’d like to share some of the gowns of Rene Rosso. Resa loves to draw this talented, sexy and gown wearing Diva of a Torch Singer.

Ahh, such beauty, however let me back up to the beginning of all this gluttony of drawing. One day Holly & Resa were cutting up in the comments on GLAM, Resa’s street art blog. They came up with some idea that there should be Go-Go dancers to dance in front of street art found in the alleys.

Boogapony Holly was born.

Then there was a Free Comic Book Day on Resa’s street. Within an hour of attending the event, she found Marvel super hero art on a wall. A post was made out of that. Again in comments, Holly and Resa came up with Princess Blue Holly.

You know some heroes were raised by wolves, or born of a lab accident. Our Blue Holly was abandoned in a patch of holly, and raised by the plant. I jest not here! Blue Princess Holly is a real plant.

A beautiful member of the popular Blue Holly series, Blue Princess (Ilex x meservae) is a female plant that produces tiny flowers and knockout red berries.

After Princess Blue Holly, came the Art Gowns Models, which led into adventures where Princess Blue Holly could be her super hero self. Here is Art gowns Model Holly in her Gown Of Wildflowers.

As we near the end of “A Bouquet of Holly”, I’d like to present my second gift to her.
I think of her standing in the middle of an ocean painting the sea with her passionate words.
In Limbo – Cinnabar
Rene Rosso was invented to be Princess Blue Holly’s alter ego in real life.
Timothy Price from Off Center Not Even gave PBH & RR a special Tangle-Heart tree to guide them. Hyperion brought in his Dragons to aid Blue Holly.
Soon after, Rene Rosso hired Rebecca Budd to Art Direct all of her shows with the Art Gowns Models. Insider tip: a new character will appear in the next adventure of PBH & the Art Gowns Models!
It’s been a whirlwind of drawing, and it all began simply as some fun between Holly and Resa.
Holly, Resa has asked me to make sure this song is dedicated to you!

A Tangle of Antlers

Dahlings! Welcome to A Tangle of Antlers!

I’m Your host Rene Rosso. Today I’m here to celebrate, with you, Marina Kanavaki: her special personal art, her love of all arts & music and passionate caring for all animals on earth.

It all began with Marina’s love of animals. In 2015 an Art Gown “Cecilia Lionheart” (above) was dedicated to Marina. The post was in honour of “Cecil the Lion” who had been killed by a ruthless trophy hunter.

Later in 2019,  AGM Marina was drawn wearing “Cecilia Lionheart”. Cecilia was made of  repurposed men’s ties from the 1970’s.

Holly – House of Heart sends in this beautiful poem of nature, in tribute to Marina.

I just love costume changes! So now let’s all change to Marina’s art. Art Gowns is the proud owner of 2 of Marina’s paintings. On the left is “Atom Sea #9” . On the right is “Atom Flowers #15”.

Combining both paintings, Art Gowns has created a gown titled “Hera #1” Not only is Hera a Goddess (like Marina) but it is the name of her most beloved puppy dog.

One way Marina expresses her thoughts is through photography. I’m especially intrigued by a series of photos she titled “Earth Nerve Network”.

The above Art Gown is inspired by this series. Click on the pic & go to Marina’s photography page & find 9 Nerve Networks there!

I’ve taken us all down Marina Memory Lane here, so let me finish up with this beautiful song “Remember” by Lauren Daigle.  I adore her version below.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO IRIS! Iris (© Georgiann Carlson) not only helped to make my gowns, but did my “Antlers” hair-do, and made the “Antlers” headdress.

Hangin’ with Boogapony & Jimi

High, Boogapony Holly here, and it’s a total freak out to be your host in this Art Gowns extravaganza tribute to the one and only Jimi Hendrix.

I’m not a gown kinda gal, but Resa promised to fusion Boogapony/Jimi/& Art Gowns. I’m thrilled with the results. Also, all my live performances have been cancelled, the Boogapony tour van need$ an overhaul, and I get to keep the gowns.

Did you know Jimi started out in the coffee houses of NYC? Yeah, the Folk scene evolved from the Beat scene. Here was Dylan amongst many, and Jimi did record some of Dylan’s songs.

Above is what I might have l looked like in an Art Gown…back in the early 60’s hip Coffee House days. So cool, right?

Dig this! Resa designed the costumes for a film about Hendrix. I mean he’s not just like this amazing guitar player, but his style of clothing is so Art Gowns! I wonder if he got flashy fashion ideas from playing in Little Richards Band?

Below is a study she did of  Jimi in ballpoint pen on Xerox paper. This was done for the interview.

A water colour Resa did for the interview.

Here’s the official trailer for the DVD release of the movie.

Love this psychedelic, Flower Power gown! The worlds really came together in this one!

We want to share these pics of Jimi from a LIFE magazine article; October, 1969. (Resa just happens to have one in her library)

“An Infinity of Jimis”

Original photos by Raymundo de Larrain – 1935 – 1977

We were listening to Electric Ladyland when Resa designed this Art Gown for me.

It made us think of the video of Denny Dent painting Hendrix on a wall at Monterey Pop Festival. He set a style still used by many of today’s street artists! This 3 min. vid is a must view!

Besides the fact we love Watchtower, this is  a proper licensed video; Sony to YouTube, apparently.

Jimi was an “outasight” poet, in his own right. We can’t find a decent version of “Little Wing” on YouTube, but the words stand on their own.

LITTLE WING

Well she’s walking through the clouds
With a circus mind
That’s running wild
Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams
And fairly tales
That’s all she ever thinks about
Riding the wind
When I’m sad she comes to me
With a thousand smiles
She gives to me free
It’s alright, she says
It’s alright
Take anything you want from me
(Take anything)
Anything
Fly on, little wing

On May 3, 1969 – Jimi was busted for heroin at the Toronto International Airport. After posting $10,000.00 bail, he went directly from the police station to Maple Leaf Gardens. He played to a full house.
This pic was shot from the audience. Taken by Resa’s bbf’s mom’s boyfriend, it is 51 years old, 16″ x 20″, cracked & peeling and Resa adores it.

In above slide show are some of the pieces Resa bought after the movie came out. Below is a little vid Resa did of the original SHOWTIME movie, for portfolio purposes, only.

“Now if 6 turned out to be 9
I don’t mind,”

Did ya know?

Jimi was in the 101st Airborne. He enlisted in 1961, when the draft was in full swing in the USA. He was given a choice; the army or 2 years in jail.

While serving at Fort Dixon, Kentucky, he met bass guitar player Bill Cox. Later, after the Experience disbanded, Jimi, Billy & Buddy Miles (drums) recorded an LP, “Band Of Gypsys” in January, 1970.

Jimi died on September 18, 1970. He was 27 years old.
