Art Gowns Art Styles

Last time in Art Gowns Art, I expressed a desire to expand my style & ability.

Above is a an attempt at drawing a black model.

Then I felt like my drawings were stiff, so I began this Crazy Free Art to Music. There would be no belabouring, no erasing, no starting over. It’s just go, with the flow of the music.

The idea was to loosen up. It turns out some around me like the new approach better.

I also expressed that I wanted to illustrate all of my Art Gowns. Below is Natascha in O Royal Treasure.  O Royal Treasure was  dedicated to Ralph and Natascha for their wedding.

For O Royal Treasure, I tried a combination of my formal style w/the free style. Painting white on white is still very illusive to me. Just another thing Fashion illustration never taught me.

O Royal Treasure joins the gallery, which now stands at five: Flora Blanca, Mnemosyne, Artemis by Moonlight, Lady Anne & O Royal Treasure.

I found an old sketch in my archives, that I remember fondly. It was done for an interview to design the costumes for A House Divided, a Showtime Feature.

I belaboured for days over this sketch. The massive amounts of erasing at the tail exposes the fact. I got the job, in spite of my eraser!

    1. The Free Style ones are done to music.
In this post, as the roll goes: the second, third & fourth drawings are to music. The fifth pic is a combination of music/not music. I love it!

    1. Hello Janet!
I’m very happy you enjoyed my art. Best to you and Bill, and if I didn’t mention it before, congratulations on your daughter’s wedding!!!!!! 😀

    1. Thank you Cindy! I seem to be headed the way of free flow. The music just got me going one night, so I picked up a pencil… then the watercolour pencils came out. Who knew?

  1. Now won’t this be interesting to see the changes to your style over the coming year/s. I bet you’re in for a lot of them.. Hahah..
I too luv the free flowing art. It’s softer and less defined! A little like Monet in his later art..
    xoxoxo

    1. Thank you for this wonderful compliment, Carolyn! ….. Resa Monet…… Monetresa..
      Well, I dream.
I’m definitely going to continue on with free flow. It is very satisfying, even if only 1 out of 3 looks good to me. ❦❦ xoxoxo

    1. Thank you dear JMR! I will keep going, as there is a lot of enjoyment gained. I check your blog, but you must be busy with Autocad. ❦❦

      1. yes…and income tax return…for freelance worker it is a bit of a chore, I guess you know about that too….and when there is to much to do it is easy to crash in front of tv or loosing itself into other things…:) should get back to it or try ot kick my…b… or a….. to do so…:D

  2. Hello Resa!
I love your idea about Crazy Free Art to Music. Sometimes it’s so difficult to just loosen up – which is the key to being creative – that we need a way of doing just that.
I think the way you found to get into the flow and tap into your creativity through music is a great idea.
Have a beautiful and inspired day!

    1. Yes, it really is fun drawing to music! It loosens me right up!
I intend to keep it going. You have a wonderful weekend and week ahead! -Resa

  3. Thank you so much for your dedication for our wedding a year ago dear Resa. We just love your drawing of Natascha modelling O Royal Treasure. What fun ! Big hug from all of us 🙂 xoxoxo ❤

      1. That’s great !
It was ! Suddenly snowed on the mountains around Graz, got really cold here. Brrrr ! ❄️☃️☃️❄️ xoxoxo ❤

    1. It seems the free style drawings are big winners. I’m going to do a lot more of it!
Thank you for your lovely compliment and comment!

    1. Thank you so very much. I’ve been trying to break free, creatively. Your comment helps to affirm that I am doing just that! ❤ ❤

  4. These are so beautiful Resa! I love them all! Yesterday I tried five times to leave a message here and it wouldn’t take on my phone and I couldn’t get to my PC. I am blown away by the beauty of your gowns. The sketched creation for a House Divided is amazing! You are so incredibly talented. Of course, Lady Anne will always be my favorite…I’m so sentimental. xoxoxo

    1. My dear Holly,
I am so glad you are here! You are such an inspiration to me.
A House Divided is a fabulous movie, that is based on a true story about a black woman, daughter of a slave, who inherited her father’s plantation and fortune after the Civil War. She became one of the richest women in America, at that time. Her name was Amanda America Dickson.
It starred Jennifer Beals, Sam Waterston, Tim Daly and Lisa gay Hamilton. I’m blessed to have designed the costumes.
I still wear the ring Jennifer gave me. It was her character’s wedding ring in the movie. It is a gold etched band from the 1800’s.
Yes, Lady Anne is my fave. She always will be. Flora Blanca will always be next.
However, I need models for: Atlantis Mermaid Love-In, Wild Rose, Ballroom Lux, La Vie En Rose and more! Are you interested in being my model for any of these?
I so love that you come here!
      Resa xoxoxoxo

        1. Yes, I have some wine! 😉
Let’s see what happens! Atlantis could be good, because your hair could be floating out into the water, and you could have a tail.
Of course, the corseted Wild Rose is very Rock’n’Roll.
YAY! OH and Ballroom Lux is a possibility.
Eeee, so much to choose from. ❤
Going with the flow and with my guts and the music.
          xoxoxo

            1. Ah, we need to get together for a wine and jam night! 😀 Maybe with enough wine you’ll tell me about your “been” places, and I’ll tell you about mine!!!
              Eeee, so much fun!
              I remember the night ….. ❤

              1. Lol! You got Carmine out of me, publicly!
So, the first time I ever drank champagne was with Santana. That’s it! Lol!

              2. Whoa, Santana! So green with envy. I did ride up front in the Toys for Tots Bike Ride beside Steven Tyler to Markham Park in Davie about ten years ago. Woot.

              3. Tell, tell!
Well, well… what a woot hoot.
It began when I was 16. The Who were there, in front of me and my girlfriends. They were so big and old, that we ran away! Hahaha! True!
So is Santana, true. However, I am a bit embarrassed about the whole story.

Then there are the movie stars. So much to tell…. but not in public!
                xo

              4. I wish I would have been there! Of course i wouldn’t have embarrassed you, too, much.
Perhaps just some adoration at his feet and stealing of his scarf… but … I would have left my phone number in exchange.
                All’s fair in Rock’n’Roll! ❦

  5. You follow your heart when you create your art gowns, dear Resa. Follow your heart with your extravagantly beautiful free style drawings. Their images draw me in. I can hear the rustle of silk. I can feel the richness of velvet. Again and again I return to the magical illustrations and each time something new captures my eye and draws me in. Continue to be utterly and singularly outrageous in all your artistic endeavours. XXXOOO Virginia

    1. I will, Virginia!!! The whole free style drawing is so much fun and satisfying! Wow… you can hear the rustling of silk. Thank you, dearest Virginia!
I’m so happy you like them! XOXOXOXO

    1. You are so very sweet! LOL! I cannot do push-ups, for one thing.
I’m not that keen on housework, but I do it. My house will never look as beautiful as an Art Gown, or as pretty as my worst drawing!
      I can live with that!

        1. LOL! The entire home is filled with Art Gowns hanging everywhere! I make believe the house is an ArtGown closet.
Okay, so I am a bit BoHo. I am a happy BoHo! xo

  6. I can see why you got that job ~ That last sketch is divine! And by the way I too am liking the new style of sketching you are doing, it has such fluidity to it. Hugs

    1. Yes, the free style drawings are very alluring, apparently. However, when one need to express details of a design, the other standard… expected drawings work better. Thank you, Christy!

    1. Me, too! Not many people get to wear gowns, at least not very often.
Well, it sure is fun drawing them, and making them!
Thank you for your lovely comment!

  7. Loving the freestyle drawings, but what were you listening to Motown – Diana Ross or Jazz or Beyoncé perhaps?

The colours are brighter on the right and clearer especially the feathers.

    💕

    1. Well, I was listening to a bunch of musicians jamming downstairs. They would start with a known R&B or Rock’n’Roll song, then take it where they wanted. The floor is wood, and I hate carpet, so the sound fills my apartment. I just love it.

Different musicians get together twice a week. The different combination of players creates different music every time, and a different mood. It’s quite wonderful!
There’s a session tonight, and I plan to free style.
Interesting, last time, the music was very mellow, ballads and a slower softer bluesy music filled the place. I wound up doing a very neat … semi-free style colouring over a more structured sketch. 💕

So happy you like this new style. 💕

      1. I’ll be really interested to know what type of music plays at the time you draw to see if it changes your fluidity, colours, style.

I love jamming musicians as long as it doesn’t go on too late, I lived in student halls for two years with a brass musician below! Who also liked to entertain late 😫. There were big practice rooms downstairs and shrug rooms to hang out in!

        1. Oh dear!
An untalented, trying hard to learn saxophone player was my worst. Anyway, the musicians that come twice a week are really good. LOL! I’m literally up here with paper and pencil awaiting their first notes. So, as mentioned to you in a comment on your blog… I channeled you to a kind or rock jazz music. You will see the results tomorrow! ❦❦

  8. Not only are you a fantastic photographer documenting history, and an extremely talented seamstress, but now I find out you are an artist too! Resa! Wait! I believe you wrote a book as well. Right? *head spins* You, dear friend, deserve to be at the top of the fashion world. Your gowns are one of a kind spectacular. I must admit I LOVE the freestyle as you allowed your inner kid to take over and have FUN!! You are an exceptional woman, one whom I would LOVE to meet some day. I mean that!! My time is so tied up right now with all the fur babies I care for and LOVE with all my Heart, but after that, the moon is my objective! In other words, Baby, I’m flying! You make my Heart sing with all your massive talent. Queen Resa! Yeppers! Thats’ right! *huge applause* 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

    1. Well, dear Amy, I’m head over heels about this comment! THANK YOU!!
Hahaha, massive talent, maybe, but no mind for making any money from it.
I need a manager to handle things for me. As a matter of fact, I need a manager to help me find a manager! 😀 😀

I’m so happy you have lovely fur babies to take care of. The cat may be the most gorgeous creature on earth. I have 2 at the moment. They are healthy, but are now into their old age years, just like me! YOU deserve *huge applause* 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼for your work with the babies, and all the fabulous beauty you bring us in your posts!!!

      Sending {{Hugs}} ❦❦ Resa

      1. LOL I need a manager too! I’m an artist NOT a business woman. Although, I have been trying to be so …. failing but trying. I just want to create! I have very little interest in money and am fortunate to have a hubby who takes money seriously. Hahahahaha …. boy can I relate to you! Manager for hire! PALEEZE! (((HUGS))) right back at you! I agree about cats …. they fascinate me!! 😘😘😘

    1. Aw, thanks Dale! Hey, I’m late to lots of parties!! It’s chic, you know! Especially if one shows up in a gown at a barbeque. 😀 ⚡️💥

  9. My dear friend, you do have a vivid imagination. It is an endless yet constructive garden of Eden, with fertile cycle and only your only your fertile imagination can give one of these delightful creation. It is because of the wonderful creative power of You .Thank you for it!With love Maxima

  10. So happy that I was able to see your drawings Resa, you never fail to amaze me – wonderful and the loose ones are fantastic. The green and pink one is my favorite, great elements that mess together beautifully. The flow was excellent. Just love to see you challenge yourself and keep pushing forward ~ it’s been awhile for me, but so glad I stopped in to see your latest.

    1. Yay! Thank you, Mary! Yeah, I get behind blogging all the time.
I’m glad you like these, and thank you a million for your input, which is very positive and encouraging! xo
