Question: What do you do when your great niece comes for a 2 hour visit, and you haven’t seen her for 6 years?
Answer: Throw an Art Gown on her and start shooting! No time for cleaning up, setting a stage, ironing, lighting or thinking in general!
We decided on Jade, an Art Gown dedicated to Shey, one of the 5 AGMs.
So, how did Jimi and Jim enter the equation?
Their images happen to be on 2 – 55 year old ceramic wine bottles that were on my mantle. N’s mom bought them in Yorkville Village circa 1967-69.
Pretty cool!
They’ve been living with me for over 20 years & it’s nothing short of a miracle that they are still in 1 piece. Glass and ceramics are at high risk here.
Anyway, Sherrie (Ash’s mom) said she’d like to have them, one day. I figured now’s a good a time as any.
The portraits of Jimi Hendrix & Jim Morrison on the bottles aren’t perfect, but painting on a ceramic bottle can’t be easy.
The Bottles Slide Show
Drawing on paper is much easier, and not perfect either.
The Jimi and Jim bottles resting comfortably on a shelf in Winnipeg, Canada.
During photo selection, Google photos suddenly changed! There’s a lot of new creative editing options, as well as the old ones. Here is extreme “white point” & “black point”, together.

It looks like you had a fabulous visit with your great-niece, and she is beautiful. I’m sure she will not forget this visit! That gown is one of my favorite of yours–color and style. And model, too!
Those bottles and your drawings are wonderful, Resa!
Great post, and a great visit, I think.
Thank you, Merril!
Yeah, it was a wonderful day. I love Ash to the sun and back.
Jade was perfect on her.
When I got those bottles, they were vintage. Now, they are collectables.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, it means a lot!
You’re so very welcome, Resa! 💙
💙
What a fine blog. I’ve taken a fancy to your wine bottles….a shame I’m not a thief! Regards, TOF
Lol!
Well, TOF, it’s a long way to Winnipeg, so I’m thinking the bottles are safe from your fancies.
Thank you for popping by!
Never forget I was a PI for many a year. The bottles will be mine, all mine!
LOL!!!!
I’ll warn Sherrie! She has 2 guard cats, you know! I’m not kidding. They will break your heart with disdain.
I look back and often think that I was a truly cunning PI. The tales I could tell would make some cry; some laugh. Mainly, it’s a sad old world in my old line of work. Rest assured, the bottles are safe.
TOF, you’re lucky you’re still in one piece.
Your old career could make an interesting book. Then again, you’d have to relive part of your life.
When a great niece turns up, no, you have no chose but to turn her into a model for an art gown! Perfect choice for her. Love the photos. I like your drawings (didn’t I see Jim recently? Maybe Holly used him?), but have admit there is something very cool about those bottles. Looks like they are comfortable in their new home.
Thanks Trent!
It was a joy to see Ash. Poor thing, but last time she came, I threw a gown on her. OMG! I just checked out the post. https://artgowns.com/2017/04/23/ashley-in-artemis-by-moonlight/ It was 6 years ago. Time’s running like a cheetah.
I hope she comes back soon. There’s a lot of gowns in the closet.
The bottles are a cool collector’s item. They are much safer where they live, now.
I noticed the bottles on the mantle in the first photo shoot – how fun. And those photos are great as well, though I think I like the new ones better, goddess or not in the first. How old is she now? When you said “6 years ago”, I expected a little kid who could never wear one of those art gowns, so am almost surprised by these older photos.
I hope she comes back often – with a modeling session every six years, it will take forever to go through them all! lol
Ash is in her 20’s somewhere.
I’m bad at the birthday thing, but I’ll say in the old shots…20 & 26 now.
LOL, what a fab idea, putting one of my gowns on a kid. I played in my mom’s old pretty dresses when I was a kid & my feet fit perfectly into the toes of her heels.
Could make for interesting new, but retro feeling images.
OK, I can see her being mid to late 20s, I’m just getting old so “mid to late 20s” means “kid”. lol
Lololol!!!
OH, yes, Holly did post the drawing of JM, before I did. She wrote a fab poem to it.
I’m chuffed!
I love those old bottles and this gown is gorgeous! It reminds me of something out of a fantasy novel or a scene where a character sees a woman gliding through the misty woods . . . Lovely! ❤
Oh, thank you, Layla!
Misty woods…. yes, it would be fabulous to do an outdoor shoot with one of my gowns.
I really dig those bottles, too.
It’s crazy that I didn’t break them over the years. Everything else breaks around me….. eventually! ❤❤
Jade has always been an exciting color for me and seeing you translate it
into a dressing gown is phenomenal! Brilliant work Resa
Thank you so much, Eddie!
Jade is a wonderful colour and stone.
I don’t know much about it, but I have owned jade beads and a few carvings over the years. It always held me in fascination.
{{Hugs}}
Had one jade ring I grew particularly fascinated
with it’s was not like not else
I’ve seen. hugs, dear heart
Love it!!! What a gown and model Resa!!
💕❤️💕love it
This is awesome… and I imagine your great niece loved it. Great gown … cheers to the wine bottles … clink
I think she did love it, and I loved it, too!
Yup, those are some collectable wine bottles.
Clink!!!!
PIC and how wonderful to see Jade out there today. You made my day,
YAY!
Jade is a gorgeous gown. It was a thrill to see her on a model, especially on my niece.
Shey, hope you are having a fab Sunday and have a great week ahead! xxxxxxx
Ms. Resa, you’ve got a lovely great niece. Ashlie is stunning in Jade. The Hendrix and Morrison wine bottles are super cool. I believe you made Sherrie a happy woman with those bottles. You made Shey a happy woman showing off her dress, and you made the rest of us happy people showing off your beautiful niece wearing beautiful Jade.
Ash is my idea of the perfect niece. Of course I don’t mean to brag. 🙄
Sherrie put dibs on those bottles about 20 years ago, so yes, I do believe she is happy about it. They are now her worry.
Like I said, it’s a miracle they are still in 1 piece.
Now you made me happy!
I love making people happy. It’s so cool.
Tim, thank you for this wonderful comment! xo
You are welcome, Resa. You kitties respect art enough to have left those precious bottles alone.
Yes, they may have left the bottles alone.
However, their ongoing need to snag and/or vomit on the gown’s tails is challenging.
I keep the gowns pinned up on Judy now.
When I shoot them, I leave them down, and lock the cats out of the gown room.
You’d think I was beating and starving them, the way they cry at the door.
Hey, the lights you gave me will come in handy when I shoot Charlotte’s gown.
As it is meant for stage, I want to shoot it so it shows off the sequins, and beadwork.
Yet another learning curve. xx
Wow
Thank you!
Most welcome
Thanks to you and your amazing art-gown talents, Resa, your great-niece will always remember her visit. As will readers of this blog post. Jimi Hendrix and The Doors on bottles? An added bonus. Trivia you probably know: The Doors got their name from Aldous Huxley’s book “The Doors of Perception.”
I think I heard that about “The Doors of Perception”, now that you’ve reminded me.
It was a groovy time with Ash. (Trying to bring back that “groovy” word).
I think you are right. She will remember the day.
I’m glad the bottles are off my hands. I’m so bad with breaking glass and ceramics, that my N bought me plastic tumblers.
Somehow I managed to melt a couple into cool and interesting shapes. N calls them my Picasso cups.
Another was so demented, I had to toss it into the recycle bin.
Happy Sunday!
Melted plastic tumblers as art! I like that. 🙂
Happy Sunday to you, too! Got to get a blog post up eventually; maybe tonight. Now 94 pages into “Cul-de-Sac.” Many guns, and many suspects…
Ohh, I hope you are enjoying “Cul-de-Sac.” so far! How exciting!
It’s excellent!
Resa, you are the best aunt ever! I can imagine how thrilled your niece was to model that gorgeous gown (and she did it so well too). I love green and that gown is one of your very best. Hugs to you and yours.
Aww, thank you, Teagan!
It was truly a great day for me.
Jade is a beautiful Art Gown.
A friend sent me the old pillow cases and fabrics she’s made from, so Jade seizes the spirit of Art Gowns perfectly.
Ash will have the pics, and always remember me. That makes me happy! {{hugs}}
lovely niece, lovely gown, lovely photos
Thank you, Beth!!!
Fab post Resa! I loved the gown and how quickly you went to work getting your good two hours in with your beautiful niece (who I think looks somewhat like you btw 🙂 ). Love the bottles and how nice of you to part with the Jims now. The gown is fabulous. Ash was the perfect model. Hugs ❤ xoxo
Aww, thank you, Debby!
I’m so complimented that you think you see a resemblance.
Ahh, my hair was as long as hers when I was her age.
What a rip that hair gets thinner with age. (except for the moustache) lol.
It was time to part with those bottles. They were starting to look like they were going to jump off the mantle.
Yes, Ash is the perfect model for Jade! XOXO 💖
Lol, you got it covered with the hair! So funny! ❤ xoxo
Hairs to you! 😉 ❤ xoxo
Lolol. Cheers! 🙂 ❤ xx
Resa – this is the second time around to this post. Ashlie’s elegance added beauty and sophistication to Jade. I can only imagine how much fun it was to create these photographs. I laughed out loud when I read “no time for cleaning up, setting a stage, ironing, lighting or thinking in general.” While you say that you are an amateur photographer, I believe that you are a professional. Every photo brings out the shimmering glamour of this art gown, whether standing beside a ladder or sitting on stairs – Ashlie was stunning in Jade. I LOVE the white point and black point, together. Thank you so much for this post.
Yay! You’re welcome, Rebecca.
It was a spontaneous happening.
Carpe diem as the ancient saying goes, or “Get It While You Can” as Janis sang.
So I we did, and now we have a fab memory.
Neat that you mentioned the black and white points. I find the result intriguing….and pleasing!
Thrilled you stopped by for this post. Thank you!
Will answer your mail, anon. Hugs!
Sending hugs!!!
Oh, dahling, this is the sweetest!!!!!!
I remember her in Artemis by Moonlight too.
How wonderful to have her around and what best way to spend the day!
She looks gorgeous in your WowArtGown! She really is the perfect niece!
Nice touch with the bottles though I have to admit I love your drawings more! 😉
Lots of hugs and LOVE.
okay and the inevitable slobberies! ❤️🐾😘❤️🐾😘❤️🐾😘❤️🐾😘❤️
Thank you, dahling!
I believe this is the first time I’ve seen her since Artemis by Moonlight.
Covid interrupted a lot of family visiting. Canada is crazy big. 2,029.8 km. to Winnipeg from here, and we are next door provinces.
Thanks re: my drawings.
Love and hugs to you!
I’m off to get my surfboard!
❤️🐾😘🧽🏄♀️🧽❤️🐾😘🧽🏄♀️🧽❤️🐾😘🧽🏄♀️🧽❤️🐾😘🧽🏄♀️🧽
Wow… that is some distance!
So happy you got to meet and maybe you’ll do it more often from now on.
Many more hugs and love!!!!!!
Surfboard is a must!!!!!
❤️🐾🏄♀️🌊🐾😘❤️
A beautiful gown and Ashlie is lovely. This was a real treat. I’m glad Sherrie now has the bottles. That was a fine gift. 4(🐂)
Thank you, dear John!
Ash is perfect in Jade.
It’s about time Sherrie got those bottles. Yes, a fine gift, and I’m giving it 8 (🐂)!
I agree on the Jade. 8(🐂) + 🐂
A beautiful photo shoot. Ashlie wears Jade well. As for the wine bottles, well, it was the ’60s.
I would have liked to have seen the area where the bottles were bought. I heard many stories about Yorkville, in the day. It was a bohemian experience. Now, it’s for rich people& tourists.
Any place that caters to rich people and tourists is not my cup of java.
I’m with you!
So many wonderful comments, thank you!! I’m very proud of my daughter and my Auntie Resa, truly amazing women ❤ I must tell you that I received so much praise on my IG/FB posts about your gown. Gorgeous!
After reading all the comments, I feel so much pressure. I must guard these bottles with my life! Actually, after your comment on my pic, I got nervous and moved them closer to the centre of the shelf. I called dibs on those like 30 years ago and had to endure only admiring them all that time so I feel like I've earned them ;). I've had several compliments but most importantly, Wayne says he 'loves them two times'. Thank you, I really do appreciate them!! If you never hear from me again it's because the 'cats' broke em.
Hey, those cats wouldn’t jump up there? Would they? 😬
At least they’re more centred now.
I’m thrilled that I got to dress Ash in Jade.
Yes, you did earn those bottles. The only ones who earned more was the post office. They really came up with a good scam with those flat rate boxes.
Okay, I’ll go pick out a gown for Ash’s next visit. 🙄
Tell Wayne I love him 2 times!
I’m so happy you like the post.
I love you dear Sherrie!
🥰🥰
Two beauties: your niece and your gown. Together: wow! The bottles are amazing and your drawings aren’t too shabby either. Certainly beyond my abilities. But that’s not hard. 🙂
Thank you Janet!
It was a big treat dressing Ash in the gown.
One of those special times.
The bottles were living in danger here. It’s good they’re with Sherrie now.
Thanks re: my drawings. 😘
So lovely!
Thank you!!
You’ve got it, gal! A perfect combination of a magic colour (Jade), your sweet, beautiful niece, and these worthy old bottles with two musician giants. (Your paintings are miraculous.)
The new colour in the photograph is fascinating. Oh… I m fallin’ love with you, beautiful girls. 😍😍😍😍💖🤙💕😘💖
Beautiful gown, woman and post. Fabulous. The gown is gorgeous, color and style. Wonderful.
Thank you, Gi! My great niece is beautiful. It was natural to throw the gown on her.
xx
Dear Meece, what a wonderful serendipity, gorgeous Ashlie stopping by , modeling your beautiful ( and definitely a favorite of mine) gown , Jade.
I’m in love with the this post. So much beauty plus a little peek into all those items that make up your beautiful and welcoming home.
Parting with the bottles would be hard but keeping them in the family is super.
Thank you and Ashlie for this loveliness! ❤️
Meece,
Welcome & I thank you, and Ashlie thanks you, but mostly Sherrie (Ashlie’s mom) thanks you!
What mom wouldn’t be proud, especially with all of the fabulous comments.
Honestly, I had dropped one of the bottles about 6 months ago. It’s a miracle it didn’t break. It was then I knew it was time for Sherrie to worry about the darn treasures.
Beauty is the middle name of Meeces. Holly B. Meece. Resa B. Meece.
Okay, someone sent me more beads for Charlotte’s gown. They are perfect. 🤗
Once I press and tailor tack the rest of the tail, I’m going to settle into a rhythm of sewing beads, and finishing SC.
I want SC to be the next post on Art Gowns.
xoxoxo
I’ have been waiting a long time for Charlotte’s gown. I’m so excited that you are getting close. So happy about the beads, perfect. Holly B. Meece waiting patiently, dear Resa B. Meece! ❤️
Sent a pic of the beads w/ the top… Just for fun! Back to sewing!!! ❤️❤️
🏃🏼♀️❤️
Wow, what a great post, Resa. Your great niece is gorgeous and looks stunning in that gown which I do remember. The bottles are fascinating and a super edition to the pictures.
Thank you, Roberta! It was a wonderful few hours with Ash!
I’m already picking out a gown for her next visit, LOL!
I’m glad to have those bottles off my hands. Like I say, it’s lucky they are still in one piece!
Are you back from your vaycay? I’ll pop over in awhile to see!
Hi Resa, we travelled 4 1/2 hour homewards today and will do the other half tomorrow. Back to work on Thursday 🫣
Jade is perfect for Ashlie! Colour, design, everything works. Beautiful dress on a lovely young lady.
Those bottles are very cool, indeed. And I just love the still life they found their place in.
You are so talented, Sorceress. I love your drawings and your designs (to just name two)
Thunder,
What a fab happening! Ashlie looks great in Jade, and I love getting to see my work on a person, especially if it’s Ashlie.
She’s going to be an accountant!
Yeah, the bottles aren’t my worry any more. Whew!
Okay, I’ve almost got the gown to the “only beading left” to do part.
Back to the gown room!
xoxoxo
It is a wonderful thing!
Way to go, Ashlie!
Whew! 😉
You rock, Sorceress!
Git!
xoxoxo
xoxoxo
I git rocks!

What a great post, Resa! Ashlie is beautiful and perfect for that gorgeous gown. I love it! The color and style! And what a way to spend the time with her, too. Precious memories made. Love the bottles, too, and I remember seeing the sketch on Holly’s blog. Another example of your amazing talent! ❤️
Thanks Lauren!
It’s true, precious memories were made.
Hopefully we won’t have to wait 6 years again.
Turns out I like drawing more & more every day.
I’d like to attempt drawing Leonard Cohen, but not until I clean my plate off.
Thank you for your wonderful comment, Lauren.
I hope your ebook formatting is coming along & you’re feeling well! xo
Hopefully, it won’t be another 6 years! I can’t wait to see more of your drawings. Your talent is endless. I’ll have a book update for you by end of week, and I’m feeling good, thank you! Still taking one day at a time, though. Hugs xo
Hugs xo!
How fun for you and your niece to spend the day being glamorous. The gown in beautiful and Ashlie looks gorgeous modeling it. Vry cool bottles too. I know they’ll be happy in Winnipeg.
It was a great day, for sure!
Yes, the bottles are quite happy in Winnipeg.
I hear they’re looking for their own property to purchase, as soon as interest rates go down. 😂🤗
🙂 I want to move to Canada. 🙂
LOL!!
Look at this gown! Look at this model! My mom looks amazing in this color and I wish I could give the gown to her xx Beauty upon the beauty!
Thank you, Christy! xoxo
It’s an odd colour, but some are lucky enough to be able to wear it!
Sorry for the tardy reply. I need to combine my blogs…. I get lost.
Thank you for bearing with me!
Hi!! Im new to my blog, and my dream is to persue fashion design, I want to know if maybe we could work together? Like a collab kinda thing, I adore your posts and I really see you as someone who could be a rolemodel
Hello Kaylee,
First, thank you!
Second,I will come visit your blog.
Do you have a background or education in fashion or arts studies?
Of course! Silly me. I’d seen both… (Including your bottles)
Jade seems to be a perfect fit for Ashlie, she has fabulous hair it’s like my Mums thick and long. I love the experimental photo white/black. I’ve been busy learning how to do these reels and things in a bit more detail, its frustrating because I can’t figure our how to get them to stop ending abruptly but I’m at my parents today (one of my best school friends got married yesterday) fingers crossed Dad can help me figure it out.
Great drawings too, have you ever painted a bottle?
Wonderfully written with beautiful pictures
